De KERN OCM 165 is een omgekeerde fluorescentiemicroscoop met een stabiel ontwerp en een grote werkafstand. Dit maakt hem geschikt voor het observeren en analyseren van celculturen.
Hij maakt gebruik van een 30 W halogeenlamp voor helderveldverlichting. Voor fluorescentiewerk heeft hij een Osram 100 W HBO epifluorescentie-eenheid, die sterk en helder licht geeft voor fluorescentiemonsters. De Abbe-condensor met 0,3 diafragma en een werkafstand van 72 mm helpt het licht correct te richten in zowel helderveld als fluorescentie.
Standaard is een trinoculaire oculairtubus gemonteerd. Het statief bevat een preparaat houder met een diameter van 110 mm en beweegt soepel, waardoor monsterneming snel en effectief is. Extra beugels voor petrischalen worden meegeleverd of zijn verkrijgbaar als accessoires. Aanvullende accessoires zoals oculairen, objectieven, preparaat houders en fasecontrast-eenheden kunnen ook worden toegevoegd.
De microscoop wordt geleverd met een gratis OBB-A1515 camera-adapter. Deze C-mount 0.5x adapter met instelbare focus verbindt een microscoopcamera met de trinoculaire tubus, waardoor het eenvoudig is om beelden vast te leggen en te documenteren.
